Application of Stainless Steel in Nitric Acid Industry
Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance in nitric acid, so it is widely used in the manufacture of equipment and devices for nitric acid production or contact with nitric acid. In the process of manufacturing nitric acid by high pressure method, 00Cr19Ni10, 0Cr18Ni10Ti and 0Cr18Ni11Nb are widely used.
All absorption towers use 00Cr19Ni10, ammonia-air mixers use 00Cr19Ni10, exhaust gas burners use 0Cr18Ni11Nb, 0Cr25Ni20 (Nb). 1Cr17Ni2 martensitic stainless steel can be used for the high-speed running parts of the gas compressor.
In nitric acid with an azeotropic concentration of more than 68.4%, the conventional 18-8 type Cr-Ni austenitic stainless steel does not have satisfactory corrosion resistance. When the concentration is less than or equal to 85%, use 0Cr25Ni20 stainless steel.
In nitric acid higher than this temperature or concentrated nitric acid containing Cr+6, high-silicon austenitic stainless steels with different silicon contents are used, such as 1Cr17Ni11Si4AlTi, 00Cr14Ni14Si4 (Ti), 00Cr17Ni14Si4 (Ti, Nb) and silicon content of 5 %~6% Cr-Ni stainless steel.
