What is Belt HL Brushing Machine

A Belt HL Brushing Machine is a metal surface finishing machine designed to produce a long, straight and uniform Hairline / HL brushed finish on stainless steel sheets, plates or coils. The machine uses high-speed abrasive belts to continuously brush the metal surface, creating a fine linear texture with stable grain direction and consistent surface appearance.

Technically, the final Hairline effect is controlled by abrasive belt grit, belt speed, conveyor feeding speed, brushing pressure and belt tracking accuracy. Fine abrasive belts, commonly around G240–G400, are often used for HL finishing depending on the customer’s required surface texture. The machine can be equipped with adjustable pressure control, variable speed control, wet or dry processing system, dust collection or cooling system, cleaning and drying section, and optional protective film laminating unit.

Compared with No.4 finish, HL finish has a longer, finer and more continuous line pattern, making it suitable for high-end decorative stainless steel applications such as elevator panels, home appliance panels, architectural wall panels, kitchen equipment, stainless steel doors and interior decoration materials.

Working Progress

1. Material Feeding

The stainless steel sheet, plate or coil is fed into the machine through the conveyor system. Stable feeding keeps the material flat and ensures the Hairline direction remains straight and continuous.

2. Surface Pre-Grinding

The metal surface is lightly ground to remove minor scratches, oxide marks and surface defects. This step prepares the material for a clean and uniform HL brushed finish.

3. Belt HL Brushing

High-speed abrasive belts brush the stainless steel surface to create long, fine and continuous Hairline lines. The final texture can be controlled by abrasive belt grit, belt speed, conveyor speed and brushing pressure.

4. Cooling or Dust Control

For wet-type machines, coolant or grinding liquid is supplied to reduce heat and prevent surface burning marks. For dry-type machines, a dust collection system can be added to remove metal dust and keep the workshop cleaner.

5. Surface Cleaning

After brushing, the surface is cleaned to remove grinding dust, oil, abrasive residue and metal particles.

6. Drying Section

The cleaned surface passes through the drying unit to remove moisture and prevent water marks.

7. Protective Film Laminating

If required, a protective film is applied to the finished Hairline surface to prevent scratches during handling, cutting, transportation and further processing.

8. Finished HL Surface Output

The finished stainless steel surface has a long, straight and uniform Hairline texture, suitable for elevator panels, appliance panels, architectural decoration and high-end stainless steel products.
